CTA Scholarships Available for 2008-2009

1. CTA Scholarships for Dependent Children

Each year 25 scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded to the children of CTA members who are enrolled in institutions of higher education. These awards are as follows:

  • 23 scholarships are provided by CTA.

  • One scholarship, designated for a student attending continuation high school, is provided by the D.A. Weber Scholarship Fund.

  • One scholarship is provided by the Ralph J. Flynn Memorial Fund.

Applications are made available in October. There are approximately 900 applicants annually. Deadline: postmarked by mid-February. The exact deadline will be posted on www.cta.org.

2. CTA Scholarships For Members

Each year 5 scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded to CTA members who are continuing their education. Applications are made available in October. There are approximately 150 applicants annually. Deadline: postmarked by mid-February. The exact deadline will be posted on www.cta.org.

3. L. Gordon Bittle Memorial Scholarship

Each year 3 scholarships of $2,000 each are awarded to Student CTA (SCTA) members who are pursuing degrees or credentials in education. Applications are made available in October. There are approximately 35 applicants annually. Deadline: postmarked by mid-January. The exact deadline will be posted on www.cta.org.

4. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is supported by voluntary contributions from the CTA membership and has the goal of promoting professional growth. The award is made to a CTA or SCTA member pursuing a degree or credential for a teaching related career in public education. Scholarships awards vary each year depending on contributions and on the financial need of individuals. Applications are made available in January. There are approximately 100-150 applicants annually. Deadline: postmarked by March 15, 2008.

5. Cesar E. Chavez Memorial Education Awards Program

This scholarship is supported by voluntary contributions from the CTA membership. The program provides recognition for students and their teachers who demonstrate an understanding of the vision and guiding principles by which Cesar E. Chavez lived his life. Forty top prizes are awarded in the Art and Essay categories- one per CTA Region in each of the five grade level groups: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, and community college. Applications are made available in October. Deadline: postmarked by March 23, 2008.
